چکیده
Central venous catheter insertion is a commonly performed procedure. This used to administer drugs and fluid, especially in critically ill patients, monitor central pressure. We present case of retained guidewire for 17 months which was found incidentally from the abdominal chest radiograph. retrieved J-tip using four loops retrieval snare. The process complicated with rupture guidewire, causing unwinding its outer sphere, leaving inner monofilament dangling heart chamber. In this report, we would like describe initial technique, failed bailout

Guidewire-Related Complications during Central Venous Catheter Placement: A Case Report and Review of the Literature
Seldinger's technique is widely used to place central venous and arterial catheters and is generally considered safe. The technique does have multiple potential risks. Guidewire-related complications are rare but potentially serious. We describe a case of a lost guidewire during central venous catheter insertion followed by a review of the literature of this topic. Measures which can be taken t...
متن کاملUltrasound detection of guidewire position during central venous catheterization.
INTRODUCTION Ultrasound guidance decreases complications of central venous catheter (CVC) placement, but risks of arterial puncture and inadvertent arterial catheter placement exist. Ultrasound-assisted detection of guidewire position in the internal jugular vein could predict correct catheter position before dilation and catheter placement. METHODS Ultrasound examinations were performed in a...
متن کاملGuidewire catheter change in central venous catheter biofilm formation in a burn population.
This study was designed to assess the risk of colonization and biofilm formation of central venous catheters left in situ for seven days vs those changed over a guidewire at three days and removed at seven days. Colonization was determined using scanning and transmission electron microscopy and compared to a special scraping/sonication culture method. Thirty-one catheters were examined, and no ...
متن کاملIt all unraveled from there: case report of a central venous catheter guidewire unraveling.
BACKGROUND Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters can present challenges to emergency physicians in the process of central venous catheter (CVC) placement. CASE REPORT A 68-year-old woman presented to the emergency department with severe shortness of breath and was intubated. A central line was placed after the intubation to facilitate peripheral access. A CVC guidewire unraveled during placement a...
متن کاملEndoscopic Retrieval of a Broken Guidewire During Spinal Surgery.
Since the percutaneous posterolateral approach in treating lumbar disc herniation was introduced in 1973, percutaneous endoscopic lumbar discectomy (PELD) has become a routine minimally invasive spinal procedure. However, as clinical evidence accumulated, several complications of PELD have raised our concerns, including the intraoperative injury to neural, vascular structures and failure of sur...
